It’s not a local event, and it’s not a holiday. This is an event that the United Nations started to raise awareness of global environmental issues and how we can participate to help eliminate pollution and waste, as well as global warming and sustainable food production. It’s also a day to plan events. So, let me give you a few ideas to gather your friends and family to get more people involved.
Each year they have a focus, and this year it is “Beat Plastic Pollution.” Believe it or not celebrities are also involved, because a lot of them care about this world too. Last year Canada hosted WED, and this year it’s India’s turn.
So, what can we do to participate? We can plan a tree planting for our own yards, or as a group or team we can do a fund raiser to be able to purchase many trees to plant. Trees are so important to the environment. Trees have a big part in our well-being. They provide oxygen, shade to help homes lower costs on utilities, provide homes for birds and other wildlife, plus they give us a lot of history. Who wouldn’t want a lovely tree growing in their landscapes? Trees bring home values up, and that’s a great thing!
