The Month of May: There’s more packed in this month than you realize!

The beginning of May always brings great pleasure to see more sunshine, flowers and trees blooming along with longer days to enjoy them. But, do you know ALL that the month of May has to offer? Let me enlighten you!

The calendar itself if full of known and unknown holidays. The ones we especially look forward to are The National Day of Prayer. It's a day to encourage Americans to pray, meditate and repent. Cinco de Mayo, which is May 5th, is celebrated on this day typically by drinking margaritas and eating chips and salsa. Although not really celebrated in Mexico as much as the U.S. for the victory of the Mexican war over France. Mother's Day is the mother of all holidays in May, and maybe in most months, because we want to show the woman who always loves us no matter what, nursed us back to health, fed us, taught us, led us, protected us, and so on...that she means the world to us and we are grateful for her. Mom gets a big celebration with gifts, meals, and quality time. Memorial day is a U.S. holiday to honor and remember those who died while serving in the military. It is a day to raise our awareness about the Nation’s freedom and the price for this freedom.

Some of the less known holidays in May are Star Wars Day: May the 4th Be with You! Get it? Armed Forces Day is celebrated to honor those who are currently serving in the Armed Forces, National Teacher Day is celebrated to show how grateful we are to teachers who dedicate their time and make a big impact on all of us, National Burger Day is what the name says, an appreciation of hamburgers, World No Tobacco Day serves as awareness that tobacco is unhealthy and encourages those who are addicted to it to stop...at least for a day, and much, much more... You'll have to go to the calendar here to see all these holidays and the explanation of how they are celebrated.https://www.wincalendar.com/Holiday-Calendar/May-2018

Were you also aware that there is a May flower of the month and Foods? The flower is Lily of the Valley and Hawthorn. The foods are mangoes, potatoes, limes and rhubarb. How did these become the official month of May picks? Well, lily of the valley is a very sweet smelling early flower that is very popular with brides for their wedding bouquets. As far as the foods go, there are many reasons why these foods were chosen, but you'd have to go way back in time to search for the origination of these choices. The gemstone of the month is Emerald. The beauty of green is perfect for all that is green in May. There's so much to celebrate and observe! What will you celebrate this month?
