While you are busy in your every day life you may not take much time for relaxation. I’m not talking about sitting down at the end of the day, kicking up your feet and chilling in front of the TV for the rest of the evening. I’m referring to making your own space, sort of like your own little quiet spot. It’s your choice where it is and when you do it, but it’s important to do it for your mind’s peace and serenity.
When you decide what spot will be your go to place choose how you’re going to sit; with your legs straight out in front of you or tucked in beside you or crossed. Your arms can be in your lap or beside you. Your choice of sitting position should be the one most relaxing and comfortable. Let your body just sit and familiarize yourself with your surroundings. Notice all the area around you such as trees, grass, or if inside, walls, colors textures, and so on.
Now, go ahead and gently close your eyes (read to the end before you do the rest of this relaxing exercise). Slowly breathe in deeply through the nose and slowly let your breath out through the mouth. Do this about 3 times to get set into an even more relaxed state. Notice your body feeling slightly more relaxed. Now, think about and scroll from the top of your head and notice how each area you go down is relaxing more and more. Go down to your shoulders, down your arms and the regular breathing in and out of your lungs. Moving down to your legs and now you can feel total relaxation.
While you are so relaxed think of a place you would like to be at that very moment like on a beach, in a hammock under the palm trees while you hear their leaves slightly moving from a soft breeze. You hear the ocean’s water moving inward towards the shore and outward back into the deep. You may hear some sea gulls and you are lying in the hammock just rocking a little back and forth in the most relaxing feeling moment you have felt.
Enjoy this moment for as long as you wish, and when you’re ready you can start to come back to where you were sitting and you can start to hear your special area’s surroundings again. Gently open your eyes and look around to see your space and breathe in deeply through the nose and gently back out through the mouth. Now, wasn’t that a great relaxing moment you created and one you can visit anytime you wish?
